Audio Menstrual Lessons.png

Menstruation has long been ignored as a crucial educational topic by school, governments, and conservative parenting in Pakistan. As a result, girls and women grow up using inadequate hygiene materials, facing vaginal infections, mobility issues, educational & employment barriers, social disclusion, anxiety & depression, early marriages as a consequence.

More specifically, Rural communities face more challenges related to menstrual product shortage, access and affordability. Considering many rural areas also lack the internet infrastructure to use our Raaji Chatbot, we saw an opportunity to create audio menstrual health education that could be accessed and listened offline.

This unique audio menstrual lesson series puts marginalized rural women at the center of recovery, response and resilience. This project is supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen), and partnered with URIDU and SRSO. Together, we are expanding our menstrual content in audio form for marginalized rural communities.

These Audio lessons are used in Listening Parties. A listening party is an event in a village where one community woman leader, usually a menstrual champion, receives audio menstrual content on her phone and then invites her village women and girls to hear that content together and follow it with a discussion. Any pending questions are answered by our team who is watching this party digitally from our homes and offices in different parts of Pakistan.
